Purpose of the workshop
Research evidence indicates that the more students engage in reading, the better readers they become.
This session will focus on strategies and techniques that foster the development of proficient, persistent and passionate readers. Motivational strategies and practical instructional techniques will be highlighted.
Morning Session 9:30 a.m. to noon
Focus is on reaching children age 12 and under
1. Motivation Matters
2. The Power of Pleasure Reading
3. Vocabulary is Key
4. Comprehension is the Goal
Lunch on your own from noon to 1:30 p.m.
Afternoon Session 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Focus is on reaching ages 12 – 18
1. Increasing Comprehension
3. Retelling Strategy
