Young Writers Contest 2012
In celebration of this year’s Savannah Children’s Book Festival, write a poem and include at least 5 words from some of our featured festival books.
Your poem can be about any topic of your choice. So get creative and pick from the words in the flyer.
Your poem may be in any format, e.g. haiku, sonnet, acrostic, ballad, cinquain, quatrain, etc., including free form verse. Maximum length is 20 lines (longer poems will be disqualified) and on no more than one page. There is no minimum length. Poems must be submitted on 8 ½ by 11 white paper (4 copies required) at any library branch. (No emailed entries, please.) We prefer typed entries using one ink color (blue or black) and a simple font. If handwritten, entries must be easy to read and in pencil or blue/black ink. Work will be judged on its creativity and clever use of the required words. Please do not include illustrations or any type of design.
Remember to use the resources at the library to research poetry styles. You can also go to the library to use a computer to write your poem, or use your library Power Card to make copies of your poem. Entry Deadline is Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, by 6 p.m.
