Live Oak Public Libraries will present “An Evening with the Author” featuring Tommy Linstroth, co-author with Ryan Bell of “Local Action: The New Paradigm in Climate Change Policy”, on Thursday, May 15 from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Carnegie Board Room on the second floor of the Bull Street Library , 2002 Bull Street.

According to the University Press of New England, the book is “an upbeat and accessible guide for citizens, communities, and local governments interested in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.” Authors Linstroth and Bell provide a blueprint for local governments to follow in crafting policy on living in an ecologically sound manner. They give practical examples of measures that can be implemented by communities and local governments, and explore a myriad of initiatives including: greening local building codes; creating commercial waste reduction programs; encouraging water conservation; promoting bicycling and fuel-efficient vehicles; upgrading city buildings; advocating for the use of biodiesel for municipal transportation; and designing innovative systems and policies for reduced paper use.

Linstroth is Head of Sustainable Initiatives for Melaver, Inc., the Savannah based vertically integrated, sustainable real estate firm. He also serves as a Trustee of the Live Oak Public Libraries and has been a guiding force behind the development of a sustainability policy for the public library system serving Chatham, Effingham and Liberty counties with 19 branches. As a result, the library uses environmentally-friendly products for cleaning and in the selection of building materials. The 20th branch of the library system, which is currently under construction on the Southside of Savannah near Target at Savannah Mall, will achieve LEED certification.

Mr. Linstroth will present ideas from the book and then sign and sell copies of the book for those in attendance on the 15th. For more information, call 912-652-3604.
