Mary Villeponteaux, an Associated Professor and Chair of the Department of Literature and Philosophy at Georgia Southern will examine the variety of female characters found in Shakespeare’s plays, from the “shrewish” wife who fights her husband’s dominance in Taming of the Shrew to “saintly” figures, such as Desdemona in Othello who meekly accepts her husband’s anger and is eventually murdered by him.
